Welcome to Greensboro!

Greensboro enjoys gently rolling hills and is midway between the mountains of North Carolina and its beaches to the east. A view of the city from its highest building—the Lincoln Financial tower—reveals that the town is populated with large numbers of green trees, giving perhaps another dimension to its name. The town is well-situated in terms of travel, with Interstates 40, 85, and the soon-to-be-built I-73 passing through its borders. (Information provided by Wikipedia .)

If you are looking at visiting, Greensboro certainly offers the best to its visitors.

City Submits Economic Stimulus Priority List to State Senate Committee

GREENSBORO, NC -- (March 25, 2009) – The City of Greensboro has provided a retooled economic stimulus priority list to the Select Senate Committee for Economic Recovery. This committee was formed late last week and held its first official meeting yesterday in Raleigh. Greensboro Senator Don Vaughan is a member of that committee.

The retooled list includes 62 projects Greensboro City Council has approved as priority projects for economic stimulus funding, as well as additional projects. As new information has become available about economic stimulus funding, City of Greensboro department heads have identified additional projects that may qualify for funding as part of the stimulus package.

Governor Bev Perdue’s budget recommendations on March 17 reportedly used some of the economic stimulus funding as part of her balanced budget proposal. The Senate committee and a House committee will take up the task of evaluating the Governor’s recommendation for stimulus funding. That review may reflect different priorities than those of the Governor. Some stimulus money has already been committed, for example, highway funding as announced in February will remain in place.

Festival Park Landscaping Improvements Begin March 16
Fifty-three new trees will replace those that are dead and dying

GREENSBORO, NC (March 11, 2009) – Beginning Monday, March 16, landscaping improvements will begin in Festival Park that will make the park a safer, more attractive destination. Trees that are dead or dying will be removed and 53 new trees will be planted. The new trees feature a mix of Hightower Oaks, Brandywine Maples and Lace Bark Elms. These tree types were specifically chosen for their compatibility with Greensboro’s soil and climate. The new trees will be strategically placed to allow for more open space in the park, cleaner lines, and more visual appeal.

The landscaping project is the result of a public-private partnership between the City of Greensboro, Action Greensboro, Downtown Greensboro Incorporated, Tommy Lineberry, and the Greensboro Merchant’s Association. Community meetings were held to incorporate public input into the design and layout of the tree plantings.

Festival Park is located in Council district 3, Council member Zack Matheny’s district. Matheny stated that, “I am proud to be part of working together with this group to improve Festival Park and the Price Bryan Performance Place Amphitheatre. This area is a wonderful asset for our city and serves as an entertainment venue for many types of events. I look forward to continuing to seek these types of opportunities for public private partnerships to further enhance Greensboro.”
